Downes Elementary Chinese Immersion Program Institute Background
At Downes Elementary, we are proud to offer the option of entering our Chinese Immersion program to all families. Students may enter up through December of their 1st grade year. Students in this program spend 1/2 of their day immersed in Mandarin Chinese. It is in this class they learn Math, Science and Chinese Literacy. The second part of their day is offered by the English partner and in that class they learn Language Arts and Social Studies. This program also allows Mandarin Heritage Language Learners and Recent Immigrants to Immerse in English for 1/2 of the day while learning math and science in their Primary language.
