The K-16 language education pathway: promoting access and success in college and careers Institute Background
The Utah Bridge Program focus is centered on supporting access to bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural citizenship, and meeting each student’s potential in college pathways. The University of Utah partners with our state's six 4-year institutions of higher education to offer upper division university language course work to high school students in grades 10, 11 and 12. Students qualify to enroll by scoring a 3+ on the AP Language exam in grade 9, 10 or 11, and may earn up to 9 upper division university credits. These courses represent a partnership between the Utah System of Higher Education and the Utah State Board of Education. As Concurrent Enrollment coursework, students simultaneously earn credit towards high school graduation while earning university credit, which is accepted for language degree pathways at all of Utah's public 4-year universities. The program recruits and supports students from multiple language pathways, including grade K/1-9 DLI pathways, AP language, heritage language, and from historically underrepresented demographic groups in higher education.
