Biliterate and Multicultural Students Institute Background
Charlotte East Language Academy is a partial magnet two-way dual language immersion program in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Students apply to the program in kindergarten through the School Choice Lottery, and all available School Choice seats will be allocated across three socioeconomic status (SES) categories (high, medium, and low) to achieve the greatest socioeconomic diversity possible. Each student will have priority for one of these categories based on home address and data families will be asked to provide during the lottery application. An additional filter is used for this two-way program to ensure that there is a balance of Spanish-speaking students and non-Spanish speaking students admitted through the lottery process. Students who wish to enter in grades 1-8 may apply through the late-entry process for any open seats, and must demonstrate some Spanish proficiency to meet entrance requirements.
