Biltmore Prep: Biliterate Scholars, Adventurous Learners and Solution Seeking Leaders! Institute Background
The dual language Spanish Immersion program at Biltmore Preparatory prepares students to be biliterate in English and Spanish by teaching a 50/50 immersion program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and a 70/30 immersion program for students in sixth through eighth grade. Students in third through eighth grade are assessed yearly on the AAPPL in interpersonal listening and speaking, presentational writing, interpretive listening and interpretative reading (note third grade students are only assessed in Interpersonal listening and speaking and fourth graders are assessed in all areas except for presentational writing, according to the school's assessment plan). Students in eighth grade have the opportunity to earn the Spanish Language Achievement Award by earning scores of Novice High in all four assessed areas, which qualifies them to earn high school credit for Spanish 1/2 and 3/4 with Biltmore Prep's partner high school district. Students who earn a minimum of Intermediate Low in all four areas, have the opportunity to apply for the Biliteracy Award of Distinction, which requires a written essay in Spanish and an oral presentation to a panel.
